Intel Compute Stick Windows 10 Threshold 2 (TH2) Update

1. Made Bios Recovery (the new bios 31 on usb stick )
(by holding power button 3 sec, not more not less), press F4 for recovery.

2. Important after finished update Bios turn off compute stick and don't forget to remove AC adaptor (power cord). Plug in again.

3 I went in to bios and restored to default bios default values.

4. I had a working stick since I had made a image of win8.

5. Disabled write caching

6. Changed power settings to never go to sleep

7. removed micro sd card.

8. Installed win 10 from external drive, made a completely new install. (removed everything)

9. Since I made a new install I had to once again disable write caching when install finished, and change power settings to never go to sleep(Its enabled as default).

10. Tried to make a recovery disk but windows told me I was missing files.

11. Started a new windows 10 install from external drive but this time kept everything, apps and files.

12. when install finished I started to make a recovery disk and that worked this time.

13. Made an image of win10

14. Hope I never have this much trouble again

Microsoft Windows® 10 Threshold 2 Update Guide

This document provides the Intel® recommended method for applying the Windows 10 Threshold 2 (TH2) update on the Intel® Compute Stick STCK1A32WFC.  

Requirements 
 Intel® Compute Stick STCK1A32WFC, with either Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, connected to an AC power source (not a television USB port)  USB Hub  USB Keyboard and Mouse
 USB flash drive 4GB or greater  Internet Connection  

+ Windows 10 Threshold 2 update failed and the Intel Compute Stick no longer starts  


Step 1: BIOS Recovery 

1. Download the latest BIOS version and copy it to a USB flash drive.  The BIOS is available on Download Center.

2. Follow the instructions at Power Button Menu BIOS Update Instructions to perform the BIOS recovery.

3. If the Intel Compute Stick now starts correctly, continue to Step 2. If the Intel Compute Stick still does not start, contact Intel Customer Support for warranty replacement.  


Step 2: Check Trusted Execution Engine Version 

1. Turn on the Intel Compute Stick.

2. Press F2 when you see the F2 to Enter Setup prompt during boot.

3. Select System Identification Information on the Main page and press Enter on the keyboard.

4. Scroll down with the keyboard’s down arrow to view Intel® Trusted Execution Engine. The version should be 01.02.00.1149 if the BIOS Recovery was successful. If it is NOT 01.02.00.1149, perform the BIOS Recovery again, then check the version again. 

5. Press F10 to exit BIOS Setup.  


Step 3: Windows 10 TH2 Update

Choose one of the following methods to perform the Windows TH2 update: 
Method 1: Create installation media on a USB flash drive, on another computer with a fast Internet connection.

1. At the Get Windows 10 website, under Using the media creation tool, select Upgrade to Windows 10 using the tool.

2. Download the tool to create installation media on a USB flash drive.

3. Run the tool. You will be prompted for several options during the media creation. We recommend the following choices on those screens


After finishing the rest of the steps and the media has been created: 

1. Start the Intel Compute Stick and boot into Windows.

2. Right-click the Start button and select Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options > Change Plan Settings. Set the Put the computer to sleep option to Never.

3. Navigate to the USB flash drive.

4. Double-click Setup.exe to start the installation. Follow the prompts. 
Note: At the Ready to install screen, the default setting will be Keep personal files and apps. If you select any other option, you may lose all of your data and files. 

5. The Intel Compute Stick will reboot several times during the update. The progress of the update may appear slow, and there may be times where nothing is visible on the display. Do not shutdown the system during the update.  The update may require 2-4 hours. 


Method 2: Update directly from the Intel Compute Stick, using your Internet connection.

1. Click the Start button.
2. Select Settings > Update & security > Windows Update > Check for updates.   
+ Windows 10 Threshold 2 update failed but Windows still starts on the Intel Compute Stick 


Step 1: Disable eMMC cache 
1. Power on the Intel Compute Stick.

2. Right-click on the Windows logo and select Device Manager.

3. Open the Disk drives category to show the eMMC storage device. Double-click the Kingston device.

4. On the Policies tab, uncheck Enable write caching on the device, then click OK.

5. Restart Windows.





Step 2: Windows 10 TH2 Update
